Bhubaneswar: Priority will be given to elderly health workers in the first phase of COVID-19 vaccination during which health workers will be given the shots.
The Odisha Government announced this on Tuesday as it awaits arrival the first batch of coronavirus vaccine.
“The state government has furnished a database of 3.28 lakh health workers to the Centre for vaccination in the first phase while the Serum Institute of India (SII) has sent a consignment of 40,800 vials of vaccines having 4.08 lakh doses. Another 20,000 doses of Covaxin of Bharat Biotech have also been dispatched. As each health worker will be given two doses of vaccines, about 200 health workers will be vaccinated. Taking this into consideration, we have decided to vaccinate the elderly health workers on a priority basis while the remaining health workers will be vaccinated after we receive the second consignment,” said Pradipta Mohapatra, Additional Chief Secretary, Health and Family Welfare.
Talking about the dispatch of vaccines from Bhubaneswar, he said that the district collectors have been asked to send the vaccine delivery vehicles and collect the vaccines from the State Vaccine Store by Tuesday evening.
