Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police on Sunday arrested the director of a private nursing college for alleged sexual harassment of girl students.
Police later seized incriminating documents and sealed his office room at the institute.
The arrested director Kodandadhar Sahu will be forwarded to the court on Monday.
According to sources, the accused had set up a private nursing college, Indira Institute of Medical Science and Research at Bharatpur under Khandagiri police limits. A total of 60 students had taken admission for one-year course in Pathology, provided by the institution.
However, the students alleged that while the institute had not been granted government affiliation, the authorities charged Rs 18,000 towards admission fee and a monthly hostel fee of Rs 2500 from each student.
The students also alleged that the authorities had not made adequate provision of food and water for them in the hostel. Due to the shortage of rooms, some students had to stay put in the kitchen room.
Trouble started when some hostel inmates brought sexual harassment charges against Sahu on September 30 and ransacked the assets and properties of the institute, demanding his immediate arrest. They also demanded refund of their money.
Following a complaint lodged by the girl students, the Khandagiri Police began investigation and detained Sahu on Saturday for interrogation. He was finally arrested him on Sunday.
