New Delhi: Trinamool Congress MP Sagarika Ghose on Thursday submitted a privilege motion notice against Union Minister Kiren Rijiju.
The Rajya Sabha MP has accused Rijiju of “misusing his position” by repeatedly insulting Opposition members in in the Upper House of Parliament.
The privilege motion notice has been signed by 60 leaders from Opposition parties, PTI reported.
Ghose criticised Rijiju’s role as the Parliamentary Affairs Minister.
“I have brought a privilege motion against the Union Minister Kiren Rijiju. He is the Parliamentary Affairs minister and it is his responsibility to ensure smooth conduct of the Parliament session. But we are watching that he is constantly insulting the Opposition… He is misusing his position to insult the Opposition,” the TMC MP told mediapersons.
Ghose also demanded an apology from the BJP leader.
On Wednesday, Rijiju slammed Opposition MPs, saying that they are “not worthy of being in the House” in response to their attacks on Vice-President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar.
“If you cannot respect the chair, you have no right to be a member of this House,” Rijiju further said.
Sixty MPs from the Opposition INDIA bloc on Tuesday filed a notice in Rajya Sabha for a no-confidence motion against Dhankhar, accusing him of being “extremely partisan” in his role as Chairman of the Upper House.
