Cuttack: Health Minister Naba Kishore Das on Sunday ordered a probe into an expectant woman being deprived of medical help at Gurudijhatia Primary Health Centre under Athagarh subdivision in Cuttack district.
He has directed the official concerned to investigate the case and submit a report within three days.
According to sources, Kuni Maharana of Khamara Nuagaon in Athagarh was brought to the health centre on Sunday after she complained of labour pain, but it was reportedly closed. As no one turned up, she had to deliver the baby under a tree on its premises.
Though the woman along with her newborn was immediately rushed to Brahmapur Community Health Centre in Athagarh, the doctors there declared the baby dead.
The condition of the mother was stated to be critical.
