Sundargarh: The North Odisha Development Council (NODC) would be formed in 2-3 months, said Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Sunday.
Speaking at a felicitation ceremony, organised by BJP at Sanskruti Bhavan in Sundargarh, the chief minister said a task force has already been formed to start the process of formation of NODC. A minister has been assigned the responsibility to carry forward the work, he added.
He said Sundargarh district, which is now under Western Odisha Development Council (WODC), would be brought under NODC. “I personally want that Sundargarh should be included in NODC. It will ensure rapid growth of the western Odisha district,” he added.
The state government had formed WODC in 1998. Bargarh, Balangir, Boudh, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Sambalpur, Subarnapur and Sundargarh besides Athmallik sub-division of Angul district were included in the Council. The medical colleges in Balangir, Kalahandi and Sundargarh were constructed with the funds from WODC.
