Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mahapatra on Friday reviewed the progress of two major projects in Ganjam district – a river project on Rushikulaya basin and a beautification project at Taratarini Temple.
Expressing satisfaction over the pace of Rs 172.06 crore Ghatakeswar multipurpose project across River Ghadaka at Kankia village on Rushikulya basin in Kukudakhandi block of Ganjam district, the Chief Secretary was hopeful that the project would supply 8.25 MLD drinking water to about 75000 people of Berhampur, Kukudakhandi and Rangeilunda blocks. Besides, it would irrigate 600 hectare in Kukudahandi Tehsil limits. The Chief Secretary also directed expeditious completion of the project by July, 2022. A 266.,61-metre-long concrete gravity dam is under construction to meet the needs of cultivation as well as drinking water.
Mahapatra also monitored the progress of rennovation and beautification of Taratari temple. Suggesting ways to resolve field level issues on fast track, he said the project envisages strengthening the temple structure, external and internal beautification of the shrine and, creation of amenities for the tourists and visitors. Mahapatra also fixed timelines for completion of various components of the project.
The beautification of the project was initiated by the Ganjam district collector in November 2018. Measures to build a multipurpose mandap at the foothill at a cost of Rs 2 crore, a yagna mandap, prasad sevan pandal and renovation of a Kalyan Mandap at a cost of Rs 40 lakh and completion of an inspection bungalow at a cost of Rs 2 crore were taken up.
