Sambalpur: All movable properties in the office of the chief construction engineer of Western National Highway Circle in Odisha’s Sambalpur were attached on Wednesday following court order over non-payment of pending dues to a private firm.
Sources said a private firm Orient Construction Pvt Ltd was awarded a highway work in Keonjhar following a tender during 2007-08. After completion of the work, the company applied for regular payment.
However, as no payment was made for the work done, the private firm filed a suit in the civil court in 2009 as part of efforts to get the pending dues to the tine of Rs 74 lakh, company lawyer S N Padhy told the media.
The court delivered its verdict way back in 2013 for payment of the pending dues by the government agency to the private firm. However, the dues were not cleared by the government despite constant efforts.
As the dues along with cumulative interest mounted to over Rs 1.42 crore, the construction firm approached the court which ordered attachment of all movable properties of the office of the chief construction engineer.
