Prophet Remarks: Now, Nupur Sharma Gets Summon From Kolkata Police

Kolkata: There is no respite for Nupur Sharma for her objectionable remarks against Prophet Muhammad.

After Maharashtra police, the suspended BJP spokesperson has now been summoned by Kolkata Police. A notice has been issued to Nupur by Narkeldanga Police Station. She has been asked to comply with the notice on or before June 20.

The case against Nupur has been filed under Section 41A of CrPC, along with 153A, 295A, 298, and 34 of IPC.

She was earlier summoned by Bhiwandi police in Maharashtra’s Thane district and asked to appear today. However, she has sought time from the police to appear before it to record her statement.

It’s not clear how much time has been granted to Nupur, who has been receiving facing death threats for her remarks against the Prophet during a TV debate on Gyanvapi mosque row.

A case has also been filed against expelled BJP leader Naveen Kumar Jindal, who had posted controversial tweets against the Prophet. Jindal has been asked to appear before the police on June 15.

Nupur has also been asked to appear before Mumbai Police and record her statement on June 25.

The BJP suspended Nupur and expelled Jindal on June 5, more than a week after their controversial comments and tweet.

Several Gulf countries condemned the derogatory comments against the Prophet, with some asking for an apology from the Indian government.

At home, violent protests erupted across several states last week, demanding the arrest of Nupur.
