Protest Against VC Decision: Students Of Ravenshaw University In Cuttack Launch Fast-Unto-Death

Cuttack: The students of Ravenshaw University, here, who were sitting on dharna in front of the main gate of the campus since Tuesday demanding withdrawal of vice-chancellor’s decision on closure of gates, have started fast unto death in support of their demand.

The agitating students had threatened to intensify their agitation, if the university administration would not comply to their demand. They have been opposing the decision of the vice-chancellor to close three gates (number 1, 2 and 3) of the university from 6 pm to 8 am everyday and total close on Sunday and holidays.

They pointed out that by opening only gate 4 facing Chhatra Bazaar, they authorities were putting the safety of the students and their relatives at risk from anti-social elements. The opening of the backside gate has led to uninterrupted movement of outside vehicles and disturbance by the outsiders, they added.

They suggested that the university authorities can open the main gate and deploy security guards there. In order to prevent outsiders from entering the campus, the guards at the gates can check the identity cards of the visitors, they added.
