Jaipur: Tension prevailed on Chitalo College campus on Saturday as Political Science lecturer Niranjana Panda resumed duty after obtaining bail following his arrest on Tuesday on charges of sexually harassing his male students.
Students and staff of the college staged vociferous protests at the college opposing the entry of the sodomy-tainted lecturer after the “shameful incident”.
“We have received complaints from students and forwarded them to the police and authorities in the Higher Education Department. We have formed a committee to investigate the case,” said Professor Aditya Prasad Mallick.
Talking to newsmen, college officials expressed their concern and demanded that the college management board chairman and District Collector take appropriate action against the accused.
“The internal committee is investigating the incident and we will send the report to the Higher Education Department,” said college founder Badrinarayan Rai.
“I am one of the victims of this case. More students may be sexually harassed if the teacher continues to work in the college,” said a complainant.
However, the accused teacher refuted the allegations and said the case is pending with the court and it is not appropriate for him to comment on it.
The sub-district commissioner assured that allegations against the professor would be investigated and action taken appropriately.
