Bhubaneswar: Psychiatrists on Saturday advised students to balance work, studies, life, leisure and sports to keep off depression, tension and mental pressure.

They were speaking at a youth connect workshop on “Better Lifestyle for Healthy Living” conducted at ITI Bhubaneswar.

Dr Suvendu Mishra, psychiatrist from SUM Hospital, told the students to develop good hobbies to engage their minds with positive thoughts.

“Positive thoughts induced by good videos, songs and constructive discussions with fellow students can play important roles in shaping our lives and we should not allow our minds to glue to negative thoughts,” he said.

He also requested the students to minimize the use of smartphones as the devices are making people more lonely and isolated now-a-days.

Dr Amit Pattajoshi, psychiatrist from Hi-Tech Medical College and Hospital, said, “Students should learn the art of balancing life, work and other things so that they can reduce the stress elements in their lives.”

The two leading psychiatrists also advised the students not to over react in situations and to return to their houses or hostels safely as the society has become extra violent and reactive.

ITI Principal Jeetamitra Satapathy and other staff members of the institution also participated in the programme and posed questions to the experts.

The youth connect programme is being implemented at selective educational institutions in Bhubaneswar. It is a collaborative initiative of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation, Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited and United Nations Population Fund to strengthen the social components of Smart City.
