Public Safety: 80 More CCTV Cameras To Be Installed In Odisha’s Berhampur
Berhampur: In order to ensure security of the people, 80 more closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras will be installed at 26 key locations of Berhampur in Odisha’s Ganjam district.
The Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) has already set up CCTV cameras at 29 key locations in the city in the first phase earlier. The 80 CCTV cameras would be installed at 26 more locations with a cost of Rs 1.85 crore to further upgrade the surveillance infrastructure of Berhampur.
A puja for the auspicious occasion was held at sub-registrar office square on Tuesday. It was attended by Berhampur mayor Sanghamitra Dalei, Berhampur MLA Bikram Panda and many corporators of the BeMC.
The mayor said the locations for CCTV surveillance have been selected by Berhampur SP Saravana Vivek M. “We had requested the BeMC earlier to instal these CCTV cameras. Police also chose the cameras and strategic locations,” the SP said.
The CCTV cameras will be installed at Goodshed Road near platform No 4 of Berhampur railway station (four cameras), Andhapasara Square (3), Gosaninuagaon Flyover Chhaka (3), Housing Board Chhaka (3), Mango Market (3), Rukmini Hall Chhaka (4), Corporation Road tail end towards Aska Road (3), Sub Registrar Office Chhaka (3), Pani Tanki Chhaka (3), Sai Complex Chhaka (3), Gokarneswar Temple Chhaka near Payal Hall (3), Silla Petrol Pump Chhaka (3), Ankuli Chhaka (2), Ambapua Flyover Junction (2), Engineering School Chhaka (3), Gajapati Nagar Front Chhaka (2), Khalasi Sahi Chhaka (3), Lanjipalli Ankuli Junction (3), Goilundi Chhaka (4), Siddhartha Nagar Chhaka (3), Braja Nagar Chhaka (3), Haridakhandi village Chhaka (3), Balunkeswari Temple Chhaka (3), Dhanamera Sahi Junction (3), Gopalpur Junction (4) and Haldiapadar Bypass (4).
The CCTV cameras would help the police keep a close eye on traffic rule violators. Those would be monitored from control rooms. Regular screening of vehicles can also be done through the cameras to check auto-thefts and traffic violations.
