Balasore: Tension ran high at Balasore railway station on Thursday night after members of a cow vigilante group halted the Puducherry-Howrah Express over alleged cattle smuggling.
The members of ‘Go Surakhya Samiti’ arrived at the station around 8:12 pm and stopped the train alleging that around 31 cattle were being illegally transported to Howrah.
The Government Railway Police (GRP) officials rushed to the spot to maintain law and order situation. Later, the railway personnel and protestors verified all the documents of the cattle transporters.
The train was later allowed to leave the station for its destination at 12:35 am after the documents were found to be genuine.
