Bhubaneswar: The pugmarks in Rangamatia area here were not that of a leopard, informed Bhubaneswar City divisional forest officer (DFO) Ashok Mishra on Friday evening.
He said further investigation is on and night patrolling will be conducted to allay the fear of the locals.
On Thursday night, panic gripped Tala Sahi after some people spotted an animal, which they suspected to be a big cat, in the nearby area.
On being informed, a team of forest officials from Chandaka and Nandankanan Zoological Park reached Rangamatia for an on-the-spot investigation this morning and examined the pug marks to ascertain the veracity.
Three day ago, a leopard which had strayed into Pallaspali area in the Odisha capital was captured and released into the wild of the Chandaka.
