Mumbai: In a chilling reminder of the Pune Porsche case, a BMW luxury car allegedly driven by a VIP’s son, rammed into a scooter, killing a woman and injuring her husband here on Sunday.
On the wheels of the SUV this time was Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde group) leader Mihir Shah’s 24-year-old son Rajesh Shah.
Rajesh has been absconding since the hit-and-run incident, but his father been detained by police as the BMW was registered in his name.
Rajesh’s driver Rajrishi Bidawat, who was in the car at the time of the mishap, has also been detained by police.
The victims, residents of Worli’s Koliwada area, were identified as fisherman Pradip Nakhaw (50) and his wife Kaveri Nakawa (45).
They were returning after picking up fish from Sassoon Dock when the BMW knocked them down from behind near Atria Mall around 5.30 am, police said.
Both were severely injured, but Kaveri succumbed during treatment.
Mumbai Police are trying to hunt down Mihir Shah.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde promised that the case will be investigated impartially.
“The hit-and-run incident that happened in Mumbai is unfortunate. I have spoken to the police, and strict action will be taken as per the law. Everyone will be treated equally,” Shinde told mediapersons.
The hit-and-run was akin to the May 19 incident when the 17-year-old son of a businessman, allegedly driving in a drunken state, crashed into a motorbike and killed two young software engineers in Pune.
