Ludhiana: The chief electoral officer (CEO) of Punjab has directed District Election Officer-cum-District Commissioner of Mohali and SSP to register an FIR against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal and his party for violating Model Code of Conduct and making ‘false and frivolous allegations’ against other political parties.
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) vice-president Arshdeep Singh Kler, who lodged the complaint against Delhi CM Kejriwal and AAP, objected to a video uploaded on social media platforms by AAP Punjab.
According to Kler, the video maligned image of SAD and other political parties.
The video shows the song ‘es vaar jhaadu challooga’ with photographs of Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi, Captain Amarinder Singh and Sukhbir Singh Badal. Derogatory words are used to refer to the political leaders.
The CEO stated that since the video in question has not been approved by the state-level MCMC Committee, an FIR has to be registered.
CM Channi has also been booked for violating model code of conduct.
All 117 constituencies in Punjab go to polls on Sunday.
