Puri: Even as the state government is planning a second boundary wall as part of the Heritage Corridor around Jagannath Temple, here, the Puri District Bar Association on Wednesday filed a civil case against the project.
Speaking to media persons after filing the case in the civil court, here, Sarat Raiguru, a member of the Bar, said it pertains to violation of Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains (AMASR) Act and regulations of National Monument Authority (NMA).
The Bar has sought the court’s intervention in stopping construction of ‘illegal’ permanent structures around the temple. It has made made 11 entities including state government, OBCC, TATA, Puri Collector, NMA and Culture department of the Central government as opposite parties in the petition.
It may be noted that the Bar Association had filed a petition against the Heritage Corridor project in the SDJM Court, Puri earlier.
According to reports, a second wall will be constructed running parallel to Meghanad Pacheri of the temple as part of the Heritage Corridor. The new boundary wall will divide the area extending to 75 metres from the Meghanad Pacheri into two zones — a 55-metre interior area and a 20-metre exterior area.
