Puri: Amid growing resentment among people over the eviction drive in areas around Jagannath Temple in Puri, the district administration on Tuesday assured proper rehabilitation of the displaced mutts and trading establishments.
Informing this to the media, Puri collector Balwant Singh said steps have been taken to keep the temples of the mutt and the seat of the chief priest intact while arrangements will be made to accommodate the priest and his disciples of the mutts near the 12th century shrine.
Besides, the displaced trading establishments will be relocated at the nearby market complex while the craft complex of the Jagannath Ballav mutt will be shifted to the structure constructed for Habisyalis (widows).
“The district administration will also bear the transport cost towards shifting the goods of the traders to the new market complex,” Singh added.
Stating that the eviction of the residential houses situated in the 75-metre radius of the temple boundary will begin from Wednesday, he said those displaced will be provided with monthly rent till the time they are rehabilitated.
