Puri: The entire city will remain under CCTV scanner during Rath Yatra on July 4, Director General of Police (DGP) RP Sharma said on Sunday.
Following a meeting with senior police officials at the Town Hall here, the DGP told the media that there will be extra security arrangements in areas like the railway station, bus stand, parking places and the Simhadwara. “The CCTV cameras will be monitored at the integrated control room,” he added.
Stating that the police will maintain law and order in Puri from Rath Yatra to Suna Besha of the deities, Sharma informed that a total of 155 platoons of police and 2,400 home guards will be deployed during the festival period. Besides, a bomb disposal squad and two tactical units will be deployed as well.
“To deal with emerging situations, two companies of Rapid Action Force (RAF) will be kept in readiness. As many as 650 sub-inspectors and 15 officers in the rank of SP will be pressed into duty to monitor the security arrangements. Besides, 80 officers in the rank of DSP, the ODRAF and NDRF teams will be on duty,” he said.
Referring to the coastal security, the DGP told that police officers were instructed to work in coordination with the Coast Guard personnel.
