Berhampur: A huge python was rescued from a village in Odisha’s Ganjam district late Wednesday night.
The residents of Madanmohanpur village on the outskirts of Berhampur city in the district first spotted the snake and informed the Snake Helpline.
Swadhin Kumar Sahu, a local member of the Snake Helpline went to the village and carefully rescued the snake. He identified it as python and found it to be in good health on checking. The python measured 7 feet in length.
Later, Swadhin handed over the snake to Forest officials who would release it a natural habitation, said ranger of Berhampur forest division Rajat Kumar Mishra. The python might have intruded into human habitation due to heavy rain for the last few days, he added.
