Balasore: A 6-foot-long python was rescued after it was caught in a fishing net at a village in Soro area of Odisha’s Balasore district.
The incident was reported from Raghunathpur Gujabati under Soro block of the district. The python and two monitor lizards were caught in the fishing net set up by a villager, Santosh Kumar Senapaty, in his pond to catch fish.
According to sources, Senapaty had set up s net in his pond to catch fish and when he took out the net five days ago, he found a python. As panic gripped the village, Senapaty informed the general secretary of Snake Helpline, Subhendu Mallik about the incident and requested him to rescue the reptile.
Snake Helpline volunteers reached the site and rescued the python, which had virtually turned motionless after being in the net for a long time. Two monitor lizards were also found trapped in the net. It is suspected that the python might have slipped from the nearby forest and got trapped the fish net.
The python and the monitor lizards were released inside the Kuldiha sanctuary in the presence of forest department officials.
