Mumbai: Actor, writer, director and producer R Madhavan has been named president of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) and chairman of its governing council.
The 53-year-old Madhavan was recently in the news as ‘Rocketry: The Nambi Effect’ won the National award for Best Feature Film.
The film is based on the life of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) scientist Nambi Narayanan, who was accused in an espionage case before being exonerated.
Madhavan, who played the title role, was also writer, producer and director of ‘Rocketry: The Nambi Effect’.
Anurag Thakur, Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting and Youth Affairs & Sports, announced the nomination of Madhavan as FTII head on X and congratulated him.
“Heartiest congratulations to @ActorMadhavan ji on being nominated as President of @FTIIOfficial and Chairman of the governing council. I’m sure that your vast experience & strong ethics will enrich this institute, bring positive changes, & take it to a higher level. My best wishes to you,” Thakur wrote.
