Rahul Gandhi Picks Rae Bareli, Priyanka To Contest From Vacant Wayanad Lok Sabha Seat

New Delhi: Having contested from Wayanad and Raebareli Lok Sabha constituencies, and won both, Rahul Gandhi had to pick one within 14 days of the election result.

The Congress leader has finally made up his mind 13 days after results were declared, and decided to retain the Rae Bareli seat, while his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will contest for the vacant Wayanad seat, Mallikarjun Kharge announced on Monday.

“Party has decided that Rahul Gandhi should retain Rae Bareli seat since it is close to the family,” Congress president Kharge said after holding discussions with senior party leaders at his residence.

“We have decided that Priyanka ji should contest from Wayanad,” he added.

“I am very happy to be able to represent Wayanad. All I’ll say is that I won’t let them feel his (Rahul’s) absence,” Priyanka said.

“I will work as hard and try my best to make everyone happy and be a good representative. I have a very old relationship with Raebareli and Amethi which cannot be broken. I will also help my brother in Raebareli. We will both be present in Raebareli and Wayanad,” Priyanka said.

“Both places are getting two MPs,” quipped Rahul.
