Patna: Hours after Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar gave Rahul Gandhi a seven-day deadline to either submit an affidavit with evidence or issue a public apology on his claims of ‘vote chori’, the Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha said he was not afraid of the Election Commission of India (ECI) as he sharpened his attack on the poll body.
Addressing a massive gathering at Bihar’s Aurangabad on the first day of his Voter Adhikar Yatra in the poll-bound state, Rahul accused the ECI and BJP of conducting a major electoral fraud, and claimed that constitutional rights of citizens were being snatched.
“I am not afraid of the Election Commission. Tejaswi (Tejaswi Yadav) is also not afraid of the Election Commission. Bihar is not afraid, we have to fight for votes, we have to fight for the Constitution,” Rahul said.
Speaking at the rally, Rahul said while interacting with the people of Bihar, he heard many complaints that their names had been deleted from the voter list.
“The rights that you get from the Constitution are being snatched away. We are going to show you the real picture of Bihar. Bihar has always shown the way to the country,” the Congress MP said.
Rahul questioned the credibility of the ECI following its press conference earlier in the day.
“When you made the CCTV law, why did you change it? Do you know that no one can file a case against the Election Commission? This law was made by Modi and Amit Shah so that votes can be stolen. But we will not let votes be stolen,” Rahul assured the audience.
The Congress leader slammed local administration and police for setting up barricades at the venue to restrict crowds. “The police put up barricades so that you could not come forward. But we reached the barricades and so did you. This is the power of Bihar,” Rahul said to loud cheers and applause.
