New Delhi: Differences within the Congress are surfacing thick and fast.
Even as the party’s high command is having a tough time tackling the leadership tussle between chief minister Siddaramaiah and deputy CM DK Shivkumar in Karnataka, the internal rumblings following the debacle in the Bihar Assembly elections got amplified on Friday.
Faisal Patel, son of Sonia Gandhi loyalist late Ahmed Patel, blamed the “lost Gandhis” – Rahul and Priyanka – for the party’s rout in Bihar earlier this month.
Faisal is of the opinion that the grand old party should be in the hands of Shashi Tharoor or other deserving leaders who are “25 times” worthier than the Gandhi scions.
Faisal said the “lost Gandhis are inept and need to step aside,” reported News18.
In one of its worst-ever performances in Bihar, Congress managed to win only six seats.
Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi had said the Bihar Assembly result was “truly surprising”, and went on to claim, “We could not achieve victory in an election that was not fair from the very beginning.”
In strong words against the Gandhis, Faisal said he would like them to step aside since they are doing a disservice to the cause of the Opposition and by extension democracy that needs an alternative.
Faisal said he was in touch with PM Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, and may opt for the Bharatiya Janata Party as it has a “wonderful work culture” led by “hard workers”.
A few days ago, senior Congress leader Rashid Alvi had commented that Congress was “no match for the BJP’s hard work” in Bihar, criticising Rahul for being “inaccessible” and advocating that Priyanka should take up the party mantle.
