Kolkata: Devidatta Satapathy, a 2009 batch officer of the Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers (IRSME), took over as Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) of India oldest operational port facility – Syama Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata (SMPK) on Monday. On Tuesday, Rathendra Raman, chairman, SMPK, formally welcomed him to the organisation.
“All heads of departments, from the Kolkata Dock System and Haldia Dock Complex, were present during the ceremony. Satapathy has over 20 years of experience across government and public sector organisations. His expertise spans policy formulation, administration, railway operations, energy management, and petroleum production,” a spokesperson for SMPK said.
Satpathy holds a BTech degree in mechanical engineering from the Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (earlier known as the University College of Technology), Burla, Odisha and a Master’s Degree from Nagaoka University of Technology, Japan.
“Before joining the Government of India, he served as an executive engineer at ONGC and has held key positions since. He was also a director in the Ministry of Steel. The chairman extended his best wishes to Satapathy and assured all assistance from officers and other employees during his tenure in the 154-year-old heritage port,” the spokesperson said.
The CVO plays a very important role in the organisation to ensure transparency and prevent any wrongdoing in financial dealings.
