Bhubaneswar: Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Saturday announced major projects with the Rs 2.64 lakh crore allocation made for the Indian Railways in Budget 2025.
Speaking at a presser, Vaishnaw said the major projects included manufacturing of 100 non-air-conditioned Amrit Bharat trains for lower-income groups, 50 Namo Bharat trains for short-distance travel and 200 new Vande Bharat sleeper and chair car trains.
He also said the Railways would take up construction of 1,000 new flyovers and underpasses to enhance safety and connectivity. The allocation for safety measures in the Budget has been increased to Rs 1.16 lakh crore from Rs 1.14 lakh crore, he added.
The Budget also included projects worth Rs 4.6 lakh crore, covering new railway lines, doubling of tracks, gauge conversion, and completion of electrification.
“The total capital allocation for the Railways is Rs 2.64 lakh crore, including Rs 2.52 lakh crore as budgetary support and private-public partnership (PPP) investments. This allocation will help sustain the momentum in railway infrastructure development,” Vaishnaw said.
