Sambalpur: The Indian Railways has completed the construction of Road Under Bridge (RUB) between Titlagarh and Kesinga stations under Sambalpur division in Odisha before the deadline.
The RUB was necessitated after the construction of the proposed Road Over Bridge (ROB) near level crossing RV-172 sanctioned in 2016 was delayed by NHAI due to land acquisition issues. The Odisha government requested the Railways for construction of RUB and gave consent to bear its cost.
The Railways took up the work on priority basis and completed casting of 48 box segments and 10 pre-cast retaining walls within 4 months despite COVID-19 restrictions. Traffic block was arranged by East Coast Railway (ECoR) on priority and insertion of boxes below the track was completed within seven hours.
The 36-meter RUB was set up with an estimated cost of Rs 13.37 crore in 6 months, well before the scheduled date of February 28, 2021.
The RUB is expected to resolve the problem faced by locals due to frequent closure of level crossing on the National Highway-26. There was a long standing demand for the construction of this RUB. General manager of ECoR Vidya Bhushan has congratulated the team for the achievement.
