New Delhi: Indian railways is planning to introduce security checks at train stations pn the lines of airports. Passengers will be required to arrived 15-20 minutes before the scheduled departure of trains.
This hi-tech security plan has already been implemented in Prayagraj because of the impending Kumbh Mela. Hoobly in Karnataka along with 202 more stations are ready to set this in motion.
“At each entry point there will be random security checks. However, unlike at airports, passengers need not come hours in advance, but just 15-20 minutes ahead of their departure times to ensure that they are not delayed because of the security process,” Railway Protection Force Director General Arun Kumar told NDTV.
To carry these checks, the Railways has invested in an Integrated Security System (ISS) which comprise of CCTV cameras with real-time face recognition software, access control, personal and baggage screening system and bomb detection and disposal system. There will be multiple checking points from the point of entry till boarding of the train. The ISS project stands is estimated to cost around Rs. 385.06 crore.
Passengers will be scrutinised even before they enter the station using the real-time face recognition software and database of known offenders. This will ease traffic during peak hours, he added.
