Bhubaneswar: The regional centre of India Meteorological Department has issued nowcast warning for 22 districts of Odisha till 5.30 pm on Wednesday.
Light to moderate rain is likely in some parts of Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Balangir, Nuapada, Kandhamal, Mayurbahnj, Keonjhar, Sundergarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Khurda (including Bhubaneswar), and Cuttack (including Cuttack city).
People have been advised to keep a watch on the weather and accordingly move to safer places to protect themselves from lightning strikes.
Notably, yellow warning for thunderstorm with lightning has been issued for one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nawarangpur, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Boudh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore till 8.30 am on Thursday. Rain is likely at a few places in South Odisha, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh and at one or two places in the remaining districts of the state during this period.
The yellow warning for thunderstorm continues for the subsequent 24 hours and the districts that are likely to be affected are Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Balangir, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj.
Odisha will experience light to moderate rain till 8,30 am on September 5, the MeT office added.
