Bhubaneswar: The low-pressure area over the North Bay of Bengal, has moved west-north-westward and has become a well-marked, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Thursday.
In an update, the IMD said that the associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 7.6 km above mean sea level, tilting south-westwards with height.
As per the weather agency, the system is likely to continue moving west-north-westwards and intensify into a depression over the coastal areas of West Bengal and Bangladesh within the next 24 hours.
In the subsequent two days, the system is expected to move west-north-westwards across Gangetic West Bengal, North Odisha, Jharkhand, and adjoining north Chhattisgarh. The IMD’s forecast suggests that the region may experience significant weather changes in the coming days.
Under its influence, heavy to extremely heavy rain is likely to pound several parts of Odisha in next few days.
