Bhubaneswar: Amid the formation and likely intensification of a low-pressure over Bay of Bengal, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange and yellow warnings for several districts of Odisha, including Bhubaneswar, till 6.30 pm on Thursday.
According to the weather agency, moderate rain/thundershower with lightning and one or two intense spells of rain may occur in Malkangiri, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Cuttack, Boudh and Nayagarh in 3 hours. Light to moderate rain/thundershower with lightning is also likely in some parts of Rayagada, Angul, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Khurda (including Bhubaneswar) and Ganjam during this period.
People have been advised to keep a watch on the weather and accordingly move to safer places to protect themselves from lightning strikes.
The intensity of rain may increase from August 30 as the system is expected to move westnorthwestwards and become more marked over westcentral and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal and intensify into a depression over westcentral and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal while moving towards north Andhra Pradesh and adjoining south Odisha coasts during subsequent 2 days
