Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for 16 districts of Odisha, including twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, till 6.30 pm on Thursday.
Light to moderate thundershower with lightning or moderate rain may occur at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Cuttack (including Cuttack city), Puri, Khurda (including Bhubaneswar), Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Balasore, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Sundargarh, Angul and Jajpur in three hours.
People have been advised to keep a watch on the weather and move to safer places to protect themselves from lightning strikes.
The weather agency has warned of extremely heavy rain in Odisha for two days (July 24-25) under the influence of a low-pressure area over the north Bay of Bengal, which is expected to move west-northwestwards and become a well marked over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal & Bangladesh coasts during the next 24 hours and continue to move west-northwestwards towards West Bengal & adjoining North Odisha coasts during the subsequent 24 hours.
Red warning has been issued for Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar districts.
