Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a nowcast warning for nine districts of Odisha, including twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, till 8.15 pm on Tuesday.
Light to moderate rain/thundershower along with lightning may occur at one or two places in districts of Khurda (including Bhubaneswar), Cuttack (including Cuttack city), Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Angul, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Bargarh and Balangir in 3 hours.
People have been advised to keep a watch on the weather and move to safer places to protect themselves from lightning strikes.
The warning has come amid formation of a low-pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast.
According to the weather agency, scattered heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy falls accompanied by thunderstorm/ lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places in Koraput and Malkangiri districts till Wednesday morning.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall along with thunderstorm/ lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places in Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Rayagada and Gajapati. Districts of Ganjam, Kandhamal, Balangir, Nuapada, Puri, Nayagarh and Khurda are also likely to experience heavy rainfall.
There is also a warning of thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph for one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur and Boudh.
