Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange and yellow warnings for some districts of Odisha, including twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, in the evening hours on Saturday.
Rain accompanied by moderate thunderstorm/lightning and wind speed 30-40kmph may occur at a few places in Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Jajpur and Khurda districts till 9.30 pm.
Rain along with thunderstorms and lightning is also like at a few places in the district of Cuttack, including Cuttack city, till 8.43 pm.
The weather agency has warned of minor damage to loose/unsecured structures and standing crops.
It has also issued a yellow warning of light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning for one or two place in Khurda (including Bhubaneswar) and Nayagarh districts till 8.40 pm
People in these districts have been advised to keep a watch on the weather and move to safer places to protect themselves from lightning strikes.
Notably, Odisha is likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall and thunderstorm activity till August 27 under the influence of a low-pressure area over Gangetic West Bengal & neighbourhood. A fresh low-pressure area is also likely to form over northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha-West Bengal coasts around August 25.
