Bhubaneswar: The School of Hotel Management (SHM) of SOA in Bhubaneswar organised a competition on preparation of “Pitha’ (cakes) on the occasion of Raja festival on Wednesday.
As many 26 women from different parts of the state participated in the competition. They had brought 24 varieties of Pitha prepared in their homes to the competition held on the institute’s premises.
The home-made cakes included various types of Budha Chakuli, Chhenamanda, Biri Khoja, Chitau Pitha, Kakara, Podapitha, Sijha Manda, Stuffed Manda, Arisa and Modaks.
The panel of jury in the competition included SHM dean Prof Sushant Ranjan Chaini, founder of Chhapan Bhog hotel Satyabrat Mohanty, director of People Hotel and Resorts Soumyajit Majumdar, managing director of Roses Kitchen Saroja Choudhury and director of Subham Industries Manas Panda.
They judged the culinary entries in the competition on different parameters including taste, preparation, serving and variety. At the end of the competition, the awards were presented to the winners as per the ranks.
Speaking on the occasion, the jury members appreciated the efforts of all the participants in the competition. They said it enabled the women to express their innovative skills in traditional culinary practices of Odisha.
