Chennai: In a great recognition for Tamil cinema, a Rajinikanth movie has been listed among the Films of the Century by British Film Institute (BFI).
‘Kaala’, released in 2018, stars Rajinikanth in the titular role, alongside the likes of Nana Patekar, Eswari Rao, Huma Qureshi, Pankaj Tripathi, Anjali Patil, K Manikandan and Sampath Raj.
The list, part of BFI’s Sight and Sound Summer Issue 2024, includes highly-appreciated global cinematic works like ‘Artificial Intelligence’, ‘Old Boy’ and ‘Divine Intervention’.
Directed by Pa Ranjith, ‘Kaala’ is a socio-political drama that explores social justice, power dynamics and urban politics.
Rajinikanth, who portrays the titular character, is a leader of the oppressed living in Mumbai’s Dharavi slums.
Rajinikanth’s strong performance and the film’s compelling narrative struck a chord with the audience, as the film earned commercial success and received critical acclaim.
