Mumbai: Actor Rajpal Yadav, who is currently out on interim bail in the Rs 9 crore cheque-bounce case, called for prison reforms for “respectable” inmates.
He also suggested that jails should have designated smoking rooms similar to those at airports.
While addressing media at his ancestral village in Shahjahanpur district, Rajpal said, “There should be designated smoking areas inside jails, similar to facilities at railway stations and airports. I have an appeal. In our country, we don’t know the difference between a prisoner and a respectable person. But I have noticed that jails need to be upgraded for today’s time.
Elaborating further rehabilitation and reform, he stated: “Prisons should function as reform centres where inmates are given structured opportunities to change… It is often difficult to judge from the outside who is a hardened criminal and who made a one-time mistake.”
“My advocate Bhaskar Upadhyay will officially respond to all legal questions,” he added.
Following his release from Tihar Jail, Rajpal had thanked the entire nation and people from the Bollywood industry for supporting him. “The way the entire country, the world, and Bollywood have loved me, if I face any allegations, I’m available to answer. Thank you, High Court, for giving me the opportunity to be heard,” the actor said.
Rajpal is currently in his ancestral village for his niece’s wedding.
A video of the actor dancing to Salman Khan’s song ‘Teri Chunariya’ at his niece’s pre-wedding festivities is doing the rounds on social media, with netizens calling him a family man.
Reacting to the video, a fan wrote, “He is dancing his heart out. He was out of jail just in time for the festivities.”
Another commented, “He looks happy. Good.”
A comment read, “After getting bail, he came straight to the family events. Family guy!”
