Ranbir, Alia’s ‘Brahmastra’ Sets Post-Pandemic Record

Mumbai: Even before its release in theatres, ‘Brahmastra Part One: Shiva’ is making waves.

Ayan Mukerji’s much-awaited film, which will bring real-life couple Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt together on the big screen for the first time, has been seeing encouraging advance tickets booking.

According to trade analyst Sumit Kadel, 1.35 lakh tickets have been sold thus far. And with the film slated to hit theatres on September 9, there are still two more days to go for booking tickets in advance.

The previous Hindi films which saw high advance bookings post the COVID-19 pandemic were Kartik Aaryan-starrer ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’ and Ranveer Singh’s ‘83’.

“#Brahmastra has sold 1.35 lakh tickets for the opening day at national chain multiplexes.. Records biggest advance for a hindi film post pandemic.. Last 2 days advance booking is likely to shoot up and final number may land around ₹ 2-2.5 lakh tickets. All set for BIG OPENING !!” Kadel wrote on Twitter.

The story of India’s first World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev had sold 1.29 lakh tickets before release, while advance sales of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 were 1.12 lakh.

‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’ was a blockbuster hit, going on to earn around Rs 270 crore worldwide, while ‘83’ grossed Rs 193 crore.

Brahmastra, an adventure-fantasy film, is the first instalment in Ayan’s planned trilogy. It has taken more than four years in making and is garnering even more interest as Ranbir and Alia fell in love while shooting for the film.

The duo got married in April and Alia is pregnant with their first child.
