Mumbai: After the latest teaser of ‘Ramayana’ hinted at Ranbir Kapoor’s double role, the actor officially confirmed that he will be seen playing both Rama and Parshurama in the film.
Speaking to Collider at the recent teaser launch in Los Angeles, Ranbir shared that he used distinct body language and voice to portray Rama and Parshurama, given their contrasting temperaments, adding that he spent a year understanding the emotional depth of both characters.
“Lord Vishnu had different avatars. Lord Rama was an avatar, and Lord Parshurama was an avatar before Lord Rama,” Ranbir said.
“Just to get the opportunity, you know, how I got to play Lord Rama, to also play Lord Parshurama was fantastic. I think as an actor, apart from body language, I think if you deeply understand the spirituality and the emotionality of the characters, I think everything starts from there. I think that’s what I did the year leading up to the shoot of Ramayana, to understand who these people and characters are, what they stand for and what their motives are,” the actor added.

The teaser of Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana hints at Rama’s encounter with Parshurama during his journey back to Ayodhya after marrying Sita.
As per the epic, Parshurama challenges Rama, but the clash never happens after he realises that Rama is also an avatar of Vishnu.
The moment is also shown in the teaser with Ravi Dubey as Lakshman and Arun Govil as King Dashratha.
Besides Ranbir, the film features Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman, Ravie Dubey as Lakshman, Kajal Aggarwal as Mandodri, and Rakul Preet Singh as Surpanakha.
Arun Govil, Kunal Kapoor, Adinath Kothare, Sheeba Chaddha and Indira Krishnan will also be seen playing key roles in the project.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the film will be released in two parts, Part I this Diwali, and the second part on Diwali 2027.
