Ranji Trophy: Odisha Knocked Out After Suffering Second Innings Defeat
Ahmedabad: Odisha suffered their second innings defeat in as many matches in the Ranji Trophy as Mumbai thrashed them on the final day of their Elite Group D contest.
Odisha batsmen fared far worse in the second innings than in the first, being skittled out for a paltry 140 to lose by an innings and 108 runs.
Odisha had put up 284 after winning the toss, and Mumbai replied with a mammoth 532/9 declared.
Resuming at 84 for 5 on Sunday morning, Odisha lasted only 15 overs. Overnight pair of Abhishek Raut and Debashis Samantray provided some resistance, adding 44 runs for the sixth wicket before left-arm spinner Shams Mulani struck twice in the space of three overs.
Raut top-scored with 59 before being stumped by offie Tanush Kotian. Mulani bagged 5/64 while Kotani finished with 3/31.
Mumbai topped the group with 16 points, followed by Saurashtra (14), Odisha (3) and Goa (1).
Scores: Odisha 284 & 140. Mumbai 532/9 declared.
Result: Mumbai won by an innings and 108 runs.
