Cuttack: The Odisha side didn’t know what hit them at the DRIEMS ground here on Sunday.
Having gone into the final day of their seventh and last Ranji Trophy Elite Group A fixture against Services full of hope for a favourable result, Odisha were simply outplayed.
In an incredible chase, Services rewrote the record books to romp home by 10 wickets. The 376 for no loss that they achieved was the highest successful fourth-innings chase without losing a wicket in the history of first-class cricket.
Shubham Rohilla smashed an unbeaten 209 while his partner Suraj Vashisht 154 made not out as Services scored 330 runs needed on the last day after resuming at 46/0.
Left-handed Rohilla was the more aggressive, hitting 30 fours in his 270-ball knock and scoring at a strike rate of 77. Vashisht, a right-hander struck 15 fours and a six to play the perfect foil for Rohilla. For both batters, it was their career-best scores as they dashed Odisha’s hopes of signing off te Ranji season on a high.
The Odisha bowlers found no assistance from a pitch which eased out Day 3 onwards.
Odisha finished yet another disappointing season, failing to qualify for the knockouts as they were placed sixth in the eight-team group.
