Mumbai: The much-awaited spy-thriller ‘Dhurandhar’, starring Ranveer Singh, was leaked online just hours after the film was released in theatres on December 5.
The leaked video of the film, ranging from 240p to 1080p resolution, is circulating across multiple piracy websites.
Despite strict warnings and stringent government efforts to combat digital piracy, films continue to be victim of illegal online distribution, thereby sparking concern among fans and industry people.
Experts have emphasised that piracy affects not only filmmakers and actors, but technicians and several others who invest months, sometimes years, into making a movie, by impacting box office collections and revenues.
Also, pirated movies carry malware or viruses that can compromise viewers’ devices and personal data.
Amid piracy concerns, ‘Dhurandhar’ has outperformed Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda’s romantic blockbuster ‘Saiyaara’ by collecting Rs 40 crore worldwide. Ranveer’s film is expected to cross the Rs 100-crore mark by the end of Saturday or Sunday.
‘Saiyaara’ had earned Rs 29.40 crore worldwide on its opening day.
Helmed by Aditya Dhar, ‘Dhurandhar’ was released across 5,000 screens nationwide. Besides Ranveer, the film also stars Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, Rakesh Bedi, and Sara Arjun in pivotal roles.
