Sundargarh: A rape accused, who had been out on bail, was allegedly killed by the survivor and her husband at a village in Odisha’s Sundargarh district.
The woman and her husband were later taken into custody by the police on Sunday. After securing bail, the rape accused had reportedly threatened the couple to withdraw the case against him, sources said.
The deceased, identified as Raj Kumar Yadav (28) of Bihar, was shot with an arrow and his body was dumped in a nullah.
The couple and Yadav resided at Teliposh village under the jurisdiction of Birmitrapur police station in the district. Yadav had allegedly raped the woman in January 2023 when she was alone at home. He warned her not to disclose the incident to her husband.
Yadav continued to sexually assault her for around four months whenever she was alone at night. Unable to bear the ordeal, the woman told her husband about the incident in May 2023. Following this, he lodged a complaint with the police, leading to Yadav’s arrest. He was booked for rape and sent to Rourkela Special Jail.
Yadav was released on bail six months ago and he started threatening the couple to withdraw the case against him. On Saturday evening, the accused again visited the couple’s house and issued threats. The woman alerted her husband, who later killed Yadav with an arrow.
The couple then disposed of the body in a nullah. Locals later spotted the body floating and informed the police. During the investigation, the couple confessed to the crime after being questioned by the police.
