Mumbai: When Ratan Tata was alive, Rajan Shaw would cook authentic Parsi dishes like khatta-meetha masoor dal, mutton pulao dal, and baked custard, as well as sushi, dosas, pav bhaji, and grilled fish, for him. Nearly six months after Tara’s death, it has now come to light that he left a little over Rs 1 crore to Shaw. This includes a loan waiver of Rs 51 lakh.

According to The Times of India, Shaw has been entrusted charge of Tara’s German Shepherd Dog Tito. The pet has been allotted Rs 12 lakh in his former owner’s will. Of this, Rs 30,000 will be disbursed every quarter. Tara’s butler Subbaiah Konar has been left Rs 66 lakh, including a loan waiver of Rs 36 lakh.

The philanthropist industrialist’s love and respect for Shaw and Konar are well known. While traveling abroad, Tata would purchase designer clothes for them.

The amounts left to Shaw and Konar are part of the over Rs 3 crore left by Tata for his home and office staff. Rs 15 lakh will be distributed, on seniority basis, to his domestic helps who worked for seven years or more. An additional Rs 1 lakh will be distributed among part-time helpers and car cleaners.
His will also stipulates that ₹1 lakh should be distributed to part-time helpers and car cleaners. Tara’s secretary Delnaz Gilder has been left Rs 10 lakh.

The bulk of Tata’s Rs 3,800-crore estate will go to the Ratan Tata Endowment Foundation and the Ratan Tata Endowment Trust. Tata, fond of brands like Brooks Brother, Hermes, Polo, Daks, and Brioni, has left his wardrobe to charity.

A Rs 1 crore loan granted to his executive assistant Shantanu Naidu, for an MBA at Cornell University has also been waived off. The will has also clarified that other loans – such as one given to his neighbour and Rs 18 lakh disbursed to his driver Raju Leon – be waived off.

“I direct my executors that they shall not take any steps to recover the loans (from Shaw, Konar, and Raju Leon) and the same shall not be considered as owing to my estate. I direct that the amount of the loan shall be considered a bequest from me to the concerned servants/driver,” the will, dated February 23, 2022, states.
