Puri: Following the start of the construction of the three chariots for the Puri Rath Yatra, the Jagannath temple administration has decided to conduct COVID-19 tests for the family members of the Biswakarma Maharana (temple carpenters) engaged in the construction work.
On Saturday, the Unnayan Prasasak (development administrator) of the temple, Ajay Jena, said that the temple administration has asked the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) to take necessary steps in this regard.

“To conduct the tests, the temple administration has formed four health teams who will stay at Ratha Khala where the chariot construction is underway, and Bhakta Nivas where the Biswakarma Maharanas will stay till the construction work is completed. Besides, a mobile health team will be deployed to conduct active surveillance,” Jena added.
He said the special health teams, led by the Additional District Medical Officer (ADMO), will also educate the Biswakarma Maharana and the Bhoi Sevayats and make them aware of the virus till the completion of the construction work.
