Bhubaneswar: After a gap of two years due to COVID restrictions, Ravana Podi, which marks the end of the Durga Puja festivities, amid spectacular fireworks will be held at four places in Odisha capital on Wednesday.
The Fire Service department has given permission for the burning of the effigy of the demon Ravana, which symbolises the victory of good over evil, at Baramunda, Jharapada, Koradakanta and Pahala.
According to sources, the Baramunda puja committee in Bhubaneswar has prepared a Ravana effigy of about 45 to 50 feet this year. “The Ravana Podi ritual will be held between 8 pm and 8.30 pm in the evening. All the preparations have been made for it. We are hoping the weather condition would be better by evening,” Rama Ranasingh, president of Baramunda Puja Committee, told Odisha Bytes.
The Jharpada puja committee too has prepared an effigy of around 50 feet.
Keeping the swelling crowd, which would gather to witness the event when a large effigy of Ravana will go up in flames with fireworks in the background, the Twin City Commissionerate Police has decided to impose traffic restrictions. Vehicular traffic on NH-16 from Cuttack will be diverted from Jayadev Vihar to CRP Square via Behera Sahi, Shastri Nagar, Power House and Unit-8 DAV crossings.
