Cuttack: Ravenshaw University held its 11th convocation here on Thursday.
Eminent lyricist Gulzar, biologist Dr Manju Sharma and ophthalmologist Dr Sujata Das were conferred with honoris causa at the Convocation this year.
Presiding over the event, Governor and Chancellor of the University Prof Ganeshi Lal awarded gold medals to the toppers.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor advised the students to think about the future of the universe. “When you study in a university, you should think about the wellbeing of the universe. Students should identify and hone their inner qualities.”
A total of 61 students were conferred with gold medal on the day and 81 PhD holders were felicitated at the ceremony. Altogether, 1,047 students were conferred with post-graduation degrees and 1,301 students with graduation degrees.
President, Indian National Science Academy Chandrima Shaha, VC Ishan Kumar Patro and Registrar Ashok Kumar Das were also present. However, Gulzar and and Dr Manju Sharma were absent in the ceremony.
