Ravenshaw University Students Stage Protest Alleging Attack By ‘Outsiders’

Cuttack: Tension prevailed at Ravenshaw University in Odisha’s Cuttack city as hostel students staged a demonstration alleging entry of outsiders into the campus.

The protest by the angry students continued outside the office of the Vice Chancellor on Thursday. The demonstrators staged a sit-in demanding concrete steps to prevent entry of outside elements into the campus.

The protesters claimed that a group of outsiders entered the hostel premises and assaulted some students. They also claimed that the police failed to take timely action despite being informed about the incident.

The agitating students further alleged that instead of taking action and filing FIR against the intruders, the police have registered cases against some hostel students based on complaints from outsiders.

The protesters claimed that some outsiders entered the university premises on March 31, during the annual function and mounted an assault on a student. Though a complaint was lodged, no FIR was registered by the police, they claimed adding that a similar incident took place on April 1.

“Many outsiders are roaming in our university premises. They are abusing and assaulting us. Despite, repeated complaints, the university authorities are not taking any significant measures. Even though we are protesting for hours, none of the administrative officials have met us,” alleged another student.

The students have demanded immediate action against the intruders and assurance of their safety within the hostel premises.
