Kataka: The row relating to an Odisha MLA seemed to have thickened with faculty members of Ravenshaw University opposing the authorities’ decision to decision to replace all hostel wardens.
The Ravenshaw University Teachers’ Association (RUTA) on Friday claimed that the varsity authorities appointed a new Chief Warden, Deputy Chief Wardens, Wardens and Deputy Wardens for 13 hostels of the institution without any consultation with the faculty members.
In a memorandum to Vice-Chancellor (VC) Arka Kumar Das Mohapatra, the RUTA urged him to reconsider the decision to appoint a new Chief Warden and other hostel wardens.
The association also urged the VC to take the necessary steps with regard to their two other demands, including justice to the faculty members in connection with a dispute involving Cuttack Sadar MLA Prakash Chandra Sethi and former Chief Warden Sudarshan Mishra.
It may be noted that Chief Warden Sudarshan Mishra and other wardens had collectively submitted their resignation to the Ravenshaw VC after an alleged face-off between Mishra and the legislator over some issues pertaining to the East Hostel of the varsity.
Blaming the legislator for the face-off, the RUTA had sought an unconditional apology from him. On the other hand, the MLA had written to the Odisha Assembly Speaker seeking action against the Chief Warden.
Amid this controversy, the varsity authorities appointed a new Chief Warden replacing Mishra two days ago. They also appointed new Deputy Chief Wardens, Wardens and Deputy Wardens for the varsity hostels.
